Welcome to MonkeyBrains.net!
MonkeyBrains is a San Francisco based ISP and has been in business since 1998. Rudy Rucker and Alex Menendez are the two monkeys who run the show.
We offer a variety of services from high speed wireless connections to colocation. Our main business is hosting servers in our data center for small businesses or parties interested in getting on the Internet.
The main home for our servers is 200 Paul Ave -- we can cross-connect to any provider, facebook, technorati, yahoo, whatever your IP needs are - 1Mbps to 10Gbps. We'll give you a tour if you are interested.
If you are a customer looking to check your email, click here to go to the mail server. And if you are looking for support, check out our support pages.
The latest changes and any outages can be read about on the news page. Hmmm, what other reasons might you be reading this page? The LINK tab (above) let's you click to all the other places on this site. If you want to read some reviews of us, check out a couple of customer reviews.

Clients
Colocation
KQED - colocation (www.kqed.org), consulting, harware purchasing, office Internet [25Mbps symmetric]
KFJC - we host their streaming server -- take a listen!
Electric Embers is a stand alone ISP that rents space from us. We manage their network connectivity and deal with data center contracts while they do 100% of their own admin.
Mobissimo - A meta-search engine for finding cheap airline tickets. We host their servers and provide full service (system administration, consulting, hardware purchasing, remote hands, monitoring, etc).
Sipgate - This VOIP company has their servers colocated with our partner, Telx, and has a cross connect back to our network for connectivity.
Tapulous - Consulting and systems administration for their servers (about 40 servers)
Rainforest Action Network - we host their servers and provide spinning disk backups. They admin their own boxes, but use us for occational consulting.
Bajabound - a car insurance company for those who want to drive down Baja! We helped them consolidate down from 7 servers to 2 larger machines running virtual machines.
A couple of our other customers in no particular order: LinkTV, Business Financial Publishing, Launch Capital, Definition Studio, 18 Rabbits, Aquarius Records, BlinkLab, LeftSpace,
Laney Colleges, Paxio Inc, Skunk Studios, iStep Communications Thought Matric, Six Foot Six Media, Remodelista, Glidder, Page2Rss, Thingfo Inc
High Speed Office Connectivity
BAVC - fiber connection (10GBps) from their office to our data center
EFF - wifi connection (20Mbps+) linking their main office to our network
Veritable Vegetable - 10Mbps symmetric wifi to their company head quarters. Veritable Vegetable is an example of a client where our WIFI network didn't reach their offices, so we used a partner's network.
Practice Fusion is another company using a wifi link for their offices.
And finally
300+ domains on our shared servers - and we provide email for 90% of those domains... our systems are continously tested by customers doing weird things. :)
STANDARD Contact Info
Your primary resource for support should be email to help(@)monkeybrains.net. Remove the () marks.
If you cannot email or are not getting a response from email feel free to call

fill out this form to contact MonkeyBrains.
EMERGENCY Contact Information
If you think there is a major MonkeyBrains Failure, this is the page on how to contact MonkeyBrains. First, try to discern if the problem is yours or MonkeyBrains.
WebHosting and Colocation customers
You need to figure out if the outage is: (a) your connection to the Internet, (b) just your server, or (c) all of MonkeyBrains.
First, test your Internet connection. Can you get to other sites NOT hosted with Monkeybrains.net? (eg,
freebsd.org). If you can't, then the problem is with your DSL/Cabel hook-up and NOT MonkeyBrains.
Second, your Internet works, so test monkeybrains.net... if you can get to this page, then MonkeyBrains is fine, and it looks like just your server is down. Call/email us! Rudy's cell is 415.ICK.YUCK (if you are not a customer, don't use Rudy's cell number, use email or the office line to contact him!)
Worst Case, All of MonkeyBrains is unreachable ... we are probably working on it as you are scratching you head. Feel free to call, but we may not get back to you until the dust has settled.
Dialup Users
We managed our own phone lines and dialup equipment for years... the number of people using dialup has dropped to below 50, so we now outsource our dialup.
If you are having trouble, it will fall into one of three categories: Out of our contorl, all users are down, your account is not working.
Out of our control -- all we do is wait until the Nation Wide Dialup System is working correctly.
All Users are Down -- this happens when our authentication service is down (we need to restart it! Call us!)
Your account is not working -- recreate your dialup settings on your computer and try again... is your bill more than 30 days past due?
There, now you know what kind of person you are dealing with: someone who wants email but not pointless phone calls.
Remember, simple Tech Support questions your should email to help(@)monkeybrains.net (if you can't deduce the solution from this website).

Mail us a Check
You need to pay the monkey. There are several ways you can do that. The most popular is to send us a check:
Send a check (or money order) to:
MonkeyBrains
590 York St.
SF, CA 94110
Make check to: MonkeyBrains
Lots of customers automate the check sending through their online banking.
Use PayPal
The next most popular method is to send us money via PayPal. If you want
to do that, you can fill out this handy form which will direct you to
PayPal.com. In the 'User Name' Field, put your business name or your personal
name -- whatever Alex and Rudy can use to link the payment to your MonkeyBrains' account.
If you don't have a PayPal account, that is OK, PayPal accepts Visa, Mastercard, etc.
Automate Paypal Payments
Some people use PayPal all the time and automate the PayPal payments. To do that, you 'create a subscription' as PayPal calls it.
You can do that right here:
If you wish to cancel this automatic payment (aka subscription) at any time,
you may return to this page and just click this:

How much do you owe?
Uh oh, are you not getting your bills in email?
That is how we send out bills. If you are not getting them,
please call or email us and let us know what email address
to send your bills to. If you use
MonkeyBrains webmail,
there is a button for checking your balance. That is for hosting/dialup users.
If you are a colocation user, we need a valid email address on file to get you your bill.
